  • Downhill gradient: 16 to 18 metres
  • 66 trucks per day weighing up to 38 tonnes
  • 16 trajets par heure
  • 10 years: landfill to be operated over 10 years, but this could be extended beyond that, as was the case for the Eysins landfill
  • Site recognised as being of national and European importance under a number of different statutes

Impact on traffic and safety

The planned to-ing and fro-ing of 75 trucks per day means :

  • 132 trips per day, located at the Coppet/Divonne motorway exit and driving along the Route de la Branvaude, which is already overloaded by cross-border traffic.
  • 16 trucks per hour. That's one every 3 minutes or so.
  • Trucks with a volume of 38 tonnes, the heavily loaded trucks will pose a danger to all light vehicles (bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes or trailers carrying children, scooters, motorbikes, etc.).

Volumes & types of waste

  • 1,723,000m3 of type A waste (site excavation waste, vitrified residues, etc.) and of type B waste (asbestos-based waste, bituminous materials, rubble with plaster, glass and rock wool, road sweepings, vitrified residues, lead and antimony residues, etc.).
  • Removal of 45 hectares of agricultural land on the Tattes-de-Bogis site for a period of 10 years.

The landfill could look like this

Location

  • The landfill site will be located in the immediate vicinity (less than 600 metres in distance) from the village of Chavannes-des-Bois, over a distance of 2 kilometres, located on land belonging to Commugny and Chavannes-de-Bogis.
  • The municipality of Chavannes-des-Bois has a population of over 1,000 and includes a crèche, a restaurant "Le relais des Chasseurs", a horse-riding school, a stable and a number of sports associations.

Alternatives

  • The Sectoral Plan for Controlled Landfills (Le Plan sectoriel des décharges contrôlées - PSDC) lists other landfill site options in Canton Vaud, which are much more suited to a landfill project of this size and scale.
  • Read the arguments here to understand why it is important to stop this project and find less damaging alternatives:
